Getting Here

American, Continental, Delta and TACA Airlines all fly from the U.S. and Canada to the city of San Pedro Sula on mainland, Honduras.  Continental Airlines and TACA fly on Saturdays, only, from Houston to the island of Roatan, Utila’s largest neighbor.  TACA flights from Miami, Washington, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco are daily to San Pedro Sula, Honduras and to Roatan.  All TACA flights, with the exception of Miami, go through San Salvador, El Salvador.  TACA frequently has special offers to Honduras.  Please check airline web addresses, below, for additional information and schedule changes.

The quickest and easiest route is to continue on a local airline.  Once in Honduras, Sosa Airlines and Atlantic Air provide flights to Utila.  Note that these flights connect through the port city of La Ceiba.  In addition to the above commuter airlines, Utopia has contracted with Roatan Air, a private charter, to provide a direct inter-island flights between Roatan and Utila.  Roatan Air and “Captain Gil” charter two small planes, a three and six seater. These flights are upon request and must be booked through Utopia.

All travelers must have a valid passport with at least 6 months remaining from expiration when departing Honduras.  There is a $3.00 entry fee into Honduras and a $32.00 exit fee.  There are other incidental airport taxes with connecting local flights, usually not to exceed $2.00.  Bring a few extra dollars for these fees as well as for baggage handlers.

Visas are not required to enter into Honduras

The more adventurous traveler may want travel to Utila via the island ferry, the “Utila Princess”.  The Princess travels to and from the port city of La Ceiba.  The large catamaran seats approximately 100 persons and makes a leisurely voyage of approximately 55 minutes between Utila and La Ceiba.  Note that seasonal, incremental weather and last minute changes may occur.  Please check the schedule prior to your arrival at the ferry dock.
